The setup of VistaPE

Introduction

Assemblage VistaPE is possible under Windows XP/2003 x86/x64 any editions, it is recommended to place a directory with WinBuilder in a root of disk C: on NTFS (on FAT16/32 assemblage is not possible), during project build it is required around 2Gb of free disk space, also you should have administration privileges on your computer. For assemblage under Windows Vista you, most likely, need to disable UAC (User Account Control), for more detailed information about current compatibility and problems with assemblage can see our Forum at http://www.boot-land.net.

At the first start of the project it is necessary for you to specify the location with Windows Vista files or folder with installed WAIK (Windows Automatic Installation Kit), you can do it at "Patch" tab in WinBuilder (picture 3).

Starting from version 10 all parameters are taken out in separate Scripts (picture 4) and many checks of compatibility of various modes are added, work with the project became much easier and more convenient, but nevertheless demands that good understanding that occurs.

General options and values (picture 4)

Build model - VistaPE support loading all system directly to memory with compression and with possibility write to system disk (it's always mounted as X:), also, at this mode, you can change boot media. Possible options - Direct from CD/DVD - all files take places directly on media, booting tame long time and there is no possibility change media in an operating time, but it is much less than requirement in operative memory and in such a mode the system can work quite normally at 256Mb operative memory; Standard In RAM - in the given mode all system and some program files are located in a special image with compression (vistape.wim), there is a decent economy of disk space (on the average in 2-3 times), the system is loaded and works faster, but it is required much more (a minimum 512Mb) to operative memory; MultiBoot - this mode is fully analogous to the previous one, except for Grub4Dos used as the boot manager letting organize the complete boot of several operating systems from the one media.

Main shell - this shell will be loaded by default, possible variants: Explorer (standard explorer.exe from Windows Vista, support is in an experimental mode and many functions do not work, it is not recommended for production use); BS Explorer (good replacement Explorer with standard "Start" button and skin support); Total Commander (the file manager, an excellent choice for work with files, in the recommendation does not require); CMD (the standard command line console).

Screen resolution - adjust screen resolution, in "Optimal" mode system attempt automatically detect optimal parameters for monitor.

System locale - localization and the keyboard setting for VistaPE, in a mode "Auto" configuration will be taken from your source distribution, you can use localized source and will be have VistaPE with your native language (interface and setting).

Grub4Dos skin — appearance Grub4Dos, is recommended "Text" as the most flexible and compatible.

Force place all programs to RAM — at a mode "Direct from CD/DVD" and "MultiBoot" tries to place all programs directly in vistape.wim file, it's not dependences on options of the current program, request many operative memory for booting VistaPE.

PreConfig script — if WAIK installed in a non-standard folder, you need specify path here. If you have non-standard Windows Vista DVD as source, you can change archive container here. Please remember, x64 source is not supported.
